Gauls Gone Wild

“How long does Fashion Week last?” asked Winehouse. Amy Winehouse rocks Fendi; Colette’s dance party.

Given the cost of producing a big fashion bash, Karl Lagerfeld‘s decision to hire Amy Winehouse as guest singer was clearly risky. “I hope she won’t not show up at the last minute,” Lagerfeld confessed before her set began at Fendi’s Fashion Week party in Paris. “There’s no guarantee, you know.” Still, he admitted that her drama was part of her appeal: “That’s what I like about her.”

Thankfully, Winehouse did show up and held the crowd in thrall. “She’s amazing,” said Mary-Kate Olsen.

“A throwback to those incredible jazz, R&B and soul singers,” added a pregnant Jessica Alba.

Others in the audience included Delphine Arnault, Rihanna and Sofia Coppola. By the time Milla Jovovich arrived at the door, the room was filled to capacity, and the model-turned-designer was sent away. “This sucks,” she said.

“Maybe next time,” counseled Lou Doillon, who also was shut out.

But if the first rule of performing is to know your audience, then Winehouse was lost. “Forgive my ignorance,” she said onstage, “but I know nothing about fashion. How long does Fashion Week last? Is it really a week?”

It felt even longer, what with all the parties to attend. Roberto Cavalli hosted a fete at his new Just Cavalli boutique. Kanye West, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Julia Restoin Roitfeld showed up at Le Baron for a party thrown by Balenciaga and Nicolas Ghesquière. And Stefano Pilati and Chloë Sevigny took turns on the decks when Colette threw a big dance party at Le Pup.

Pilati’s top track for the evening? “Ain’t Nobody” by Rufus and Chaka Khan. “It’s the best song to get people dancing,” he said.
