Famous People, Infamous Busts
Photos: Andy Warhol at the Brant Foundation Art Study Center
Yesterday, the Brant Foundation Art Study Center, in Greenwich CT, held its spring opening, following up a run of installations by artists like Karen Kilimnik and Nate Lowman with a show of Warhols. There were a staggering number of greatest hits on view, including “Flowers,” “The Last Supper,” and “Marilyn,” and also a Campbell’s soup can drawing that Peter Brant bought — for a reported $500 — at the age of 20 with money his grandfather had given him. Simultaneously exclusive and inclusive, the annual event attracts not only A-listers and art world heavies but also their children, grand children, friends and assorted pets. (There is always a souvenir cookie frosted with an artwork.) As one seasoned visitor, who looked to be about 10 – going on 25 – commented, “This year the show is good too, so it’s a win win situation.” Indeed.
