Calvin Klein Gets Down for Downtown
New York Fashion Week ends with the brand’s fragrance fete.
Leave it to Calvin Klein to host the party to end all parties – or, at least, to end New York Fashion Week. The brand had many reasons to celebrate– its Spring/Summer 2014 Collection, the launch of a new fragrance, Downtown Calvin Klein, and, most importantly, Francisco Costa’s 10-year anniversary as its women’s creative director.
“It doesn’t feel like it’s been 10 years at all,” said Costa, as he greeted friends like Alexander Skarsgard, Hailee Steinfeld, Drake, and Amar’e Stoudemire. “Every collection is a new start, a new year. It’s always a challenge.” Costa took a moment to recall his first memory of the brand when growing up in his native Brazil. “I remember seeing Brooke Shields in those ads – ‘There’s nothing between me and my Calvins.’ You just cannot forget that, ever! So iconic, so inspiring, so sexy.” Nicole Kidman, who had sat front row at the show earlier that day, arrived looking gorgeous as usual and greeted Costa with a kiss. “[Francisco] has kept everything still minimal and modern,” said the actress, “but still reinvents it every time. It’s really an art form.”
“I felt very honored to be a part of [Calvin Klein’s] legacy,” said starlet Rooney Mara, who is the face of Downtown Calvin Klein. “I just remember the Kate Moss Obsession adds, the Eternity adds – their campaigns have always been groundbreaking.” Dressed in a chic, fitted frock designed by Costa, the actress herself looked as though she had just stepped out of an ad. “I always feel very comfortable and modern when I wear Calvin Klein. And this dress makes me feel a little more sexy than I usually feel – a little more womanly – so that’s good!”
As the party continued late into the night, Pharrell Williams took to the stage. Considering his recent domination of the airwaves, it wasn’t long before he had everyone, from Kidman, to W’s Stefano Tonchi, on their feet. “Oh my God, you look so chic!” exclaimed Costa, when he spotted supermodel Isabeli Fontana, who was wearing Calvin. “I mean that’s what I love about doing this – seeing my clothes on gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous girls like her.”
