Franco's Magic Moment
From left: Emmy Rossum, James Franco.
What: Gucci and the Cinema Society’s special screening of Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful.
When: March 5th
Who: James Franco (the Wizard himself) played host to a crowd of cinéastes and scenesters, including Pablo Schreiber, Marina Abramovic, Olivia Chantecaille, and Harry Brant.Â
Where: The DGA Theatre, with an after-party at Harlow, the Upper East Side’s newest hot spot. Co-owner, Richie Notar (a veteran of the Nobu franchise) was on hand to welcome guests into the restaurant’s sprawling interiors. With its Dorothy Draper-esque décor, replete with low-hanging chandeliers and ornate boiserie, the venue fittingly evokes a sense of true Old Hollywood Glamour.
Why: If Oz the Great and Powerful, has one thing going for it, it’s the fact that few can deny their nostalgia for the original tale. Emmy Rossum, who looked appropriately whimsical in a pastel, printed floral dress by Oscar de la Renta, recalled her own childhood memories of the film starring Judy Garland. “I fell in love with my dog because of Toto,” she laughed. Her favorite thing about the re-telling of Oz’s story? “The wardrobe; I loved how all of Michelle Williams’ dresses were corseted. I thought it was beautiful!”
