Who: Guests including model Annabelle Nielson, curator Stacy Engman, and Suno designers Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty took in the eclectic assortment of pieces on display, such as a Hussein Chalayan dress made entirely of plastic orbs and a mirrored wig by Charlie Le Mindu that recalls the Louvre’s famous pyramid, which explore the archetype of the Queen in fashion design.

Why: “Every chess piece has a different personality,” explained Sofia Hedman, who curated the exhibition. “We took the themes associated with the Queen—the heroine theme, the mother nature theme, and the enchantress theme—and selected pieces to reflect [them].” The designers range from famous names like Maison Martin Margiela and Alexander McQueen to students from Central St. Martins. “On the chess board, the queen is the most unpredictable piece,” Hedman said, “So we of course wanted the designers to reflect that.”
