Finer Things

Swedish golfer Annika Sorenstam, who retired last year at age 37 after earning more than $22 million in prize money, has set down one type of club to pursue another—her own wine club. Sorenstam teamed up with California’s Wente family winery to create a vintage, modestly named Annika and formed from Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals (some of which were grown alongside the Greg Norman championship golf course that, coincidentally, winds through the vineyard). It will be available for $75 a bottle this May; an Annika Chardonnay will likely debut the following year. Sorenstam thinks her career change is more logical than it might appear. “People who play golf seem to enjoy this part of life—food and wine,” she says. “The demographic is the same.”
