Leopold Thun’s Global Reach

The young curator launches a nomadic gallery.

As a cofounder of the Memphis Group, the designer Matteo Thun made his name defying conventions. Now his son Leopold, 24, is continuing the family tradition of thinking outside the box—or, more precisely, the white cube. The London curator’s nomadic art gallery, Emalin, cofounded with Jasmine Picot-Chapman, acts as a springboard for emerging talent, staging pop-up shows in unexpected places—like an abandoned school in Zuoz, Switzerland. This month, Emalin takes over an office space in Milan, where Nicholas Cheveldave will install his surrealist collages and sculptures of everyday items during the Milan Image art fair. Cheveldave will be traveling in good company; past Emalin up-and-coming artists, including Charlie Billingham and Athena Papadopoulos, are now sought-after names.
