June 19, 2009

Highlights from the July issue of W magazine are below:

NEWLYWEDS BRUCE AND EMMA WILLIS

BRUCE WILLIS, ACTOR:

ON MARRYING 32-YEAR-OLD EMMA HEMING IN MARCH '09 AFTER DATING A STRING OF MODELS..."I went from 'F--- love' to 'Love is truly the answer. I spent the last 10 years single and, for the most part, unhappy. In a dark place. I never thought that being with someone else was the answer. I would say, 'I'm alone, but I'm not lonely.' But I was just kidding myself. Then I started hanging around Emma, and on a day-to-day basis my life became much happier."

ON HOW HE, EMMA, DEMI, ASHTON, AND THE KIDS (RUMER, SCOUT, AND TALLULAH) ALL GET ALONG..."We've become like a tribe. It's generated a lot of interest because everyone can understand resentment and envy in the breakup of a marriage, but they don't understand how I can get along with my ex like that. Demi and I made a choice to put the kids first, and we're really lucky that it turns out we all have fun together. I still love her, and I have a lot of respect for how she lives her life."

ON MODELING WITH EMMA FOR W MAGAZINE'S PHOTO SHOOT FOR THE JULY ISSUE..."Oh, it was awkward. We did stuff that I know a lot of other actors would not have done. Had I done it with another model I don't know that I would have been as into it."

SOCIALITE, ARTIST, AND AUTHOR GLORIA VANDERBILT

ON THE EROTIC CONTENT IN HER NEW NOVEL, OBSESSION..."The only thing that would ever embarrass me would be something I would write that would be badly written."

ON TODAY'S POP-CULTURE SCENE..."I can't bear to look at Paris Hilton and all that. I mean, it really doesn't grab me. I don't think she's interesting, and the sense of values seems sort of off-kilter. How old is she now? She ought to know better."

THE PERSIAN CONQUEST: THE PERSIAN-JEWS OF BEVERLY HILLS

"Three decades ago in the wake of the Islamic revolution entire neighborhoods of Tehran's moneyed Jewish community fled to Los Angeles. Now, having amassed American-style fortunes and political clout, the Persians of Beverly Hills are living the ultimate California dream."–W's West Coast Editor, Kevin West

33-YEAR-OLD BEVERLY HILLS BUSINESS MOGUL AND PERSIAN-JEW SAM NAZARIAN ON THE FRAMED COMMENDATION IN HIS HOME FROM MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA..."I was one of his first supporters. We're very, very close."

HOME BUILDER HAMID OMRANI ON THE PUBLIC'S DISCONTENT WITH THE MANY OSTENTATIOUS MANSIONS HE BUILT FOR PERSIAN-JEWS TO LIVE IN..."When I came to Beverly Hills, there was not any architecture. There were old houses belonging to the World War I or World War II era. These were not buildings that had good material or good architecture. So I said, 'Why should I match with them?'"
