Ginnifer Goodwin Talks About Feeding Tabloid Rumors, The Hudnuts Reveal Admission Secrets To L.A.'S Top Two Schools, and Collector Eli Broad Celebrates Art Basel With L.A. Elite

May 19, 2009

Highlights from the June issue of W magazine are below:

ACTRESS, GINNIFER GOODWIN

ON PERPETUATING HER OWN TABLOID RUMORS..."I perpetuate rumors that I've dated people that I've never actually dated. Dorothy Parker once said something along the lines of, 'I don't care what's written about me so long as it isn't true.' It's safe making."

ON A SPOOF 30th BIRTHDAY EVITE SHE SENT TO FRIENDS WHEN IN REALITY SHE WAS TAKING THEM TO A SPA..."I wrote that this tabloid magazine and this alcohol company were sponsoring a trip to Vegas for my birthday, and that we'd be going to the opening of this new club and there would be red carpet, and airfare and everything was going to be provided. This is what everyone in Hollywood does for their birthday. Barf, right?"

ON BREAKING UP WITH BOYFRIEND OF SEVERAL YEARS, ACTOR CHRIS KLEIN..."I'm a better person in a relationship, and I'm a happier person. I need to come home at the end of the day and have it not be about me and my freaking hair and makeup and character motivations anymore. And I think my work is more inspired when home is safe and sound and solid because what I do for a living is so bananas and so insecure."

DEEDIE AND TOM HUDNUT, GATEKEEPERS OF L.A.'S MOST COVETED SCHOOLS: THE CENTER FOR EARLY EDUCATION AND HARVARD-WESTLAKE SCHOOL

ON REFUSING TO DEAL WITH THE ASSISTANTS OF FAMOUS PARENTS..."It's one of my pet peeves. If you're a good parent, you should be the one finding out about the school." – Deedie Hudnut

ON KNOWING HOW TO HANDLE "HOLLYWOOD TYPES"..."The entertainment person is similar to the politician in that they're used to getting special attention. And yet, underneath, they're regular people with the same kinds of concerns that other parents have." – Deedie Hudnut

CONTEMPORARY COLLECTOR ELI BROAD HOSTS PARTY TO CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ART BASEL

Try as galleries might to maintain a cheerful, business-as-usual front, the fate of the all-but-mandatory post-opening dinners tells the tale: No more taking over a restaurant for the night—they'll settle for a table or two. So it was with some mix of nostalgia and optimism that Los Angeles's art elite arrived at power collector Eli Broad's estate for a dinner celebrating the 40th anniversary of Art Basel, that Swiss bastion of art as commodity. As the only member of the press invited inside [W] West Coast Editor Kevin West was privy to Broad's pep talk. – W Deputy Editor, Julie L. Belcove
