The Fashion Blogger Who Loves Vetements, Mixing Cartier With Sneakers

Aleali May rolls with the boys: Virgil Abloh, Ian Connor, and Demna Gvasalia.

Aleali May

Aleali May (pronounced uh-lay-lee) is beyond an It girl; she’s one of the boys. When the 23-year-old isn’t posting on her namesake fashion blog or her Instagram, she’s hanging with Virgil Abloh and Ian Connor, who she refers to as her “little bro.” It’s no surprise that her style is borrowed from the boys, but she also has a love of Cartier, Dior makeup, and heels, well, only if they’re Vetements lighter boots. Most days she can be found posing in sneakers, a vintage rap t-shirt, and a bomber jacket — the à la mode triple threat.

Occupation: Stylist, fashion blogger, model.

Three words that describe your style: Luxury, street, and cozy.

Daily uniform: Cartier nail bracelet and my grandma’s jade pendant necklaces, bomber jacket or overcoat, vintage rap or Harley Davidson tee, jeans or sweats, and sneakers.

Favorite stores in Los Angeles: 424 on Fairfax, H. Lorenzo, RIF LA, and Union LA.

Where to buy vintage t-shirts in Los Angeles: Rose Bowl Flea Market.

Favorite e-commerce destinations: SSENSE and RSVP Gallery.

Style inspirations: The ’80s and ’90s era has always been my inspiration since a young girl. Christine Centenera, Andre 3000, M.I.A, Pharrell, Yoon of Ambush Designs, Kanye, and Barbara Martelo are a few of my personal style icons.

Designer you’re obsessed with right now: Off-White, Virgil Abloh, Vetements, and ACNE Studios.

Emerging designers you’ve got your eye on: Caitlin Price and Alyx by Matthew Williams.

Fall 2016 pieces you’re looking forward to owning: Opening Ceremony’s crushed red velvet thigh high boots and matching sunglasses.

Best recent discovery: The Depop app.

Style pet peeve: Wrinkles and lint; I can’t!

Last purchase: Vintage Calvin Klein high waist jeans from the Depop app for $20.

Nighttime look: Alix NYC or Karla’s Closet bodysuit, trousers, and heels.

What you would wear to a black tie event: Saint Laurent vibes!

Preferred footwear: Would have to be a sneaker or boot.

Are those Vetements lighter heels actually comfortable? They are comfortable enough for a half-day, lol!

Lusting after: Thigh high brown leather boots by Vetements.

Beauty products you can’t live without: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, Dior Show mascara, Benefit’s Fake Up and NARS concealer, Bobbi Brown bronzer, Laura Mercier illuminating powder, Bare Minerals matte powder foundation, and Aquaphor healing ointment.

Most unexpected outfit pairing that worked: Outfit 040 on my blog. Before my photographer Allen and I shot this, I questioned whether blue and green looked well together without referencing M&M’s (LOL!), and it worked!

Most prized possessions in your closet: Celine leather jacket in emerald green, Off—White overcoat in green, and my grandma’s jade pendant necklace… Everything green!

Favorite accessories you own: Sunglasses collection that includes Fendi, Chanel, Dior, Celine and Gucci.
