Alicia Vikander Brings Out the “Goth Girl Vibes” at the BFI London Film Festival

We won’t argue with a dark lip.

For the British Film Institute’s glitzy cocktail reception for the BFI London Film Festival awards, stars like Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Lily James, Michael Fassbender, and Alicia Vikander turned out to celebrate the night’s honorees. Kristen Stewart’s latest film in a long slate of 2016 releases, Certain Women with Michelle Williams, claimed the top prize of the evening for director Kelly Reichardt, while Julie Ducournau, the game-changing director of the horror film Raw, took home the award for first feature. Vikander, who previously swept through the Venice Film Festival with a quick stop in Paris for Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring 2017 show for Louis Vuitton, dropped in on London for the occasion, armed with a custom Louis Vuitton gown that outshone the rest of the room, including boyfriend Michael Fassbender, who she met on the set of her latest effort, The Light Between Oceans, based on the Anthony Doerr novel of the same name.

Who: Alicia Vikander.

When: Saturday, October 15.

Where: The British Film Institute’s London Film Festival awards cocktail reception in London, England.

What: A white cap-sleeved gown by Louis Vuitton (a custom creation) with a sweetheart neckline and natural waist, matching white sandals, and a camel-colored trench also by Louis Vuitton, a dark lip, and a smattering of rings by Repossi.

Why: When in doubt, go custom. Vikander has already worn a good number of Louis Vuitton’s most recent red carpet-ready looks for premieres and front-row appearances alike, but her latest won’t be found on any runway. The actress combines a sweet and elegant gown with bolder styling — a plum-colored lip, carefully deconstructed updo, and hint of a smoky eye — to bring out what her stylist Victoria Sekrier described, in an Instagram post, as “goth girl vibes.” When it comes to fall beauty trends, a dark lip is one we won’t argue with.
