BATTLE OF THE PARITES

Battle of the Paris Fashion Week Parties: H&M and The Weeknd vs. Chloé and Solange

It was a case of crooner versus crooner in the City of Lights.

It’s the last leg of fashion month, but that doesn’t mean the parties are slowing down. Quite the contrary–any sense of fatigue was thrown out the window upon touching down in Paris, where Saint Laurent kicked off the week with their take on a Bushwick warehouse party, complete with appearances by Gaspar Noé, Zoë Kravitz, Eva Herzigova, Mica Arganaraz and Lukas Ionesco–all of whom would not be out of place in the depths of Brooklyn–while Kenzo celebrated the launch of La Collection Momento Nº1, featuring a surprise performance by Lauryn Hill. Bringing out top R&B artists seemed to be the popular route, in general, with two of the week’s biggest bashes doing the same. At H&M Studio’s “See Now, Buy Now”runway show, The Weeknd took to the stage in time for the finale, while Chloé had Solange doing double-duty, sitting front row at the runway show and performing hours later at the after-party. See how the two parties stacked up here–and remember, when it comes to a free concert, everyone is a winner.

When H&M: Wednesday evening, just moments after the final look–a frilled, all-black look worn by Bella Hadid–hit the catwalk. Chloé: Thursday night, a few hours after Clare Waight Keller took her final bow as creative director for the brand.

Where H&M: The Tennis Club de Paris, perfect to show off the brand’s athletic Spring 2017 collection which, according to show notes, was designed to mix “the grace and romance of ballet and the passions of sport.” Chloé: La Monnaie de Paris, know to be the oldest continuously operating minting institution, which was transformed into the one-night-only Chloé Club, complete with neon pink lights, shimmering chandeliers, and a button-clad step-and-repeat.

Guest List H&M: Front row attendees, including Nicki Minaj–fresh off her feud with Remy Ma–Sasha Lane, Clémence Poésy, Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis, Charli XCX and Caroline de Maigret, as well as top models straight off the catwalk, including Bella and Gigi Hadid, Adwoa Aboah, Winnie Harlow, and Grace Elizabeth, still in their runway looks and ready to dance. Chloé: The celebrity incarnates of the quintessential Chloé girl (read: feminine, just a hint of quirk): Emma Roberts, Aymeline Valade, and Frederikke Sofie, as well as Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie, dressed in a plunging, nude velvet gown.

Playlist H&M: The Weeknd, currently in the midst of his world tour and who recently worked with the brand on a curated men’s collection, kicked off the set with his new single “Without You,” before cycling through his greatest hits, including “Starboy” and “Can’t Feel My Face,” which, two years after its release, is still unavoidable at a party of any sort. Chloé: Solange took to the stage with a crew of back-up dancers to perform songs from her latest album, A Seat at the Table, backed by a full band.

All Eyes On H&M: Bella, of course. Just four months after taking to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway alongside her ex-boyfriend, the 20-year-old was faced with the same dilemma all over. This time, the model clutched Gigi’s hand as they led the finale, with a wide grin planted on her face the whole time. Chloé: Keller, who was making her victory lap, having presented her final collection a standing ovation earlier in the day.

Noticably Absent H&M: Current girlfriend of The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, who had been spotted alongside the singer in Paris earlier in the week, just the latest stop in their world tour of love. Chloé: Beyoncé. Always.
