Gabrielle Union Braces for the Cold, Sets an Example for Us All

Cozy.

Gabrielle Union is many things: actress, activist, beauty guru, occasional designer, wife of basketball player Dwyane Wade, with whom she forms one-half of fashion’s sleeper power couple. Her new film Sleepless has given her ample opportunity to flex her style chops — she and Wade are regulars at fashion week, gracing the front row of Miu Miu, Public School, and Rag & Bone, and she’s deployed her eye for casual, luxurious looks at every turn.

But this week, the temperatures dropped as a cold snap whipped through New York, presenting a new challenge: how to stay both chic and warm? Luckily, Union hasn’t let us down yet — she selected a bulky Dion Lee overcoat topping off a chill city-ready ensemble for an appearance on Good Morning America in New York this week. In panels of jewel-toned fur, Union sets an example for us all. Get your notepads ready.

Who: Gabrielle Union.

When: Tuesday, January 10.

Where: En route to a taping of Good Morning America in New York, New York.

What: A fur overcoat in royal blue, hunter green, and deep mulberry by Dion Lee, paired with skinny pants and bright blue sandals, her hair and makeup both fresh and neutral.

Why: This winter, it’s time to hunt down a fur coat that swaddles your entire body. This is the lesson we’ve learned from Gabrielle Union, whose color-blocked Dion Lee coat gives her the look of a jewel-toned teddy bear — in the best way possible. It’s both chic and exceptionally functional. The rest of the look is suitably understated — hair and makeup both neutral — allowing the coat to shine. And though the snow is starting to melt from the streets of New York (Union’s sandals are a bold choice post-snow storm) and temperatures are rising again, it’s a look to bookmark for the next big freeze.
