Meet Kaisha Khadu, “People’s Choice” of the W Model Search Competition
The 18-year-old basketball player is stepping out of her comfort zone and into the fashion hands of W magazine and IMG Models.
The people have spoken and the results are in! Kaisha Khadu, 18-year-old student at La Guardia Community College, has won the Wmag Model Search “People’s Choice” Competition by a sweeping forty-four percent. “I feel honored, so grateful and blessed. It’s very insane and just feels unreal,” she says. Khadu has never really identified as a girly-girl; as a college basketball player, she’s always embraced her athletic and tomboy style. “I don’t even own a pair of heels and actually never put them on!” she says. Encouraged by her best friend to signup for our model search, Khadu thought back to her prom night – the one time she dressed up and felt gorgeous – and made the conscious decision to step out of her comfort zone and enter the competition. “From being a tomboy and now having to wear dresses, heels, makeup and hair will be an amazing experience. Favorite model: I like Kendall Jenner because she’s a tomboy and so am I. I’m a huge tomboy so I feel like we can relate in a way. With her being young and focusing on herself, I find it to be interesting and cool. She’s always true to herself.

Personal style: It’s really laid back and Cali-style because I like Hollister. So it’s more relaxed and comfortable, with my own twist.
Sneakers or heels: Sneakers. My favorite sneakers right now would have to be my Nike Air Huaraches. I don’t even own a pair of heels and actually never put them on.
Morning beauty regime: I don’t own makeup at all! When I wake up I brush my teeth and wash my face. I use Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser and Aveeno lotion – that’s it.
Goals as a model: I want to influence others to be themselves and to step out of their comfort zone. Like I said, I always played basketball so this whole experience is new for me. From being a tomboy and now having to wear dresses, heels, makeup and hair will be an amazing experience. I’m ready for it and am so excited.
