Last week, Selah Marley, daughter of singer Lauryn Hill and former football player Rohan Marley and granddaughter of reggae icon Bob Marley, was going to prom. Now she’s starring alongside Kate Moss, Margot Robbie, and Grace Coddington in the new Calvin Klein campaign. Given her lineage, and experience singing and modeling, this swift entry into the spotlight is a natural fit. Next up, the 17-year-old has plans to study at NYU in the fall… and to answer her 121 unread text messages.

Congrats on graduating high school! How does it feel? What was high school like for you? It feels liberating! I’m so excited to experience life outside the box. High school was interesting because I’m an extroverted introvert, meaning I’m sociably anti-social. I spent a lot of time saying I hated it, but truthfully, I enjoyed it for what it is. I just always yearned for more.

What were your favorite subjects? And were you involved in any extra-curricular activities? My favorite subjects were astronomy, sociology, and gender studies. And I always loved math class; I have a thing for numbers. I played soccer freshman year, and then realized I hate sweating, but looking back, I definitely should have kept up with sports.

What’s next? Are you interested in pursuing modeling full-time? Or music? I’ll be attending NYU in the fall and hope to continue my modeling career! I’m always working creatively, whether it’s writing, music, or just thinking – but I’ll also be releasing some things soon!

What do you like about Calvin Klein? What was it like shooting the campaign? I love Calvin’s simplicity! Similar to my style: classic and chic. Shooting the campaign was an amazing experience! I loved going from station to station for different interviews and being able to express my thoughts to the world.

What was the first song you ever performed in front of an audience? The first song I ever performed in front of an audience was ‘Make It Shine’ by Victoria Justice. (Oh my gosh!)

What’s the best advice you’ve received from your dad? We were on FaceTime, and he was telling me that as a family it’s necessary for us to stay united so we can build an empire and not to let trivial matters get in the way of what’s important.

And from your mom? She always tells me to never be desperate for money, fame, or material riches so I can always have my freedom and my truth – and always to stand strong in my beliefs and convictions.

What Instagram posts do you not want your parents to see? Hahaha. I never want my parents to see my bikini pictures!

How many unread texts do you have on your phone right now? 121 unread texts.

What’s your hidden talent? I’m very empathetic, and it allows me to almost know what people are thinking and how they truly feel. The only problem is, I internalize their emotions.

What inspires you? I’m very inspired by outer space. I love looking at pictures of nebulas and reading articles about black holes and dark matter — I always tie it into spirituality.
