In her graphic paintings and epic films, the artist Sarah Morris has explored—and upended—urban, social and bureaucratic typologies in mega-cities like Beijing and Rio. Her latest subject: France, in all its luxury-goods producing glory. In “Strange Magic,” a film commissioned for the opening of the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Morris deconstructs—but does not necessarily demystify—the machinery behind France’s cultural currency—namely fashion, fragrance and Champagne—not to mention its national identity. Le jour de gloire est arrivé indeed. See an exclusive clip of the film here.
