As the newly appointed accessories and jewelry director here at W, I could not have asked for a more wildly imaginative season to begin playing with all of the bags, shoes, gloves, glasses, hats and baubles that find their way into our office. Given all the color and whimsical themes that abound for spring, it's obvious that designers have struck an optimistic chord—or is escapism at the core? Either way, there is something amazing for everyone's mood this season. As we gear up for our frenetic winter shooting schedule, our closet is already brimming with some of the best bags the collections have to offer. From fantastical to ultracool and chic, here's a peek at what we've got our hands on this week.

Welcome Brooke! What a great job you have, looking and touching so many fab handbags, my one true weakness!

But how is it that one of my very favourite designers is never featured on W? I mean, not only does Marcela Calvet design superlative handbags but she is also a humanitarian. That deserves recognition, right?

Unless of course, to be featured a designer has to buy advertisement space perhaps? I am not sure how it works with magazines. But her handbags have a following that includes a lot of high profile women. Not the celebutantes that appear on certain publications (and all over the Net), sporting the "ugly, but given for free so wear it", bag of the day.

Well, perhaps you Brooke will have a different vision of things and will feature handbags of lesser publicized but great designers like this one. Thanks!
