Traveling Pants

The sisterhood was out in full force last Wednesday—to shop and snack. At a trunk show at the Upper East Side home of Equinox publicist Jennifer Fisherman Ruff, amid loads of covetable stuff (jewelry by Shawn Warren and Uzca and colorful, floaty frocks from Anick Vorbe and Tucker by Gaby Basora), a rack of killer pants was getting major love. The "trousers for every occasion," crafted by designers Yrmis and Christina of the SoHo boutique Hem, featured a bewildering array of fabrics and cuts, several adorned with zippers darting every which way. It was all very Malcolm McLaren / Vivienne Westwood on the Kings Road, circa 1977. And they're definitely unisex-y; you could just picture Mick and L'Wren in matching pairs. After doing a quick scan of the offerings, I sprang for the Tuxedo style. Tricked-out with an intricate satin racing stripe and a zillion hooks and eyes down the sides, they have a welcome lengthening effect on my Olsen-ish frame. Vive le pants.
