Rodarte's Unseen Jewels

blog_rodarte.jpgThe rings, bracelets and necklaces that designers Mark Walsh and Leslie Chin created for Rodarte's fall collection never made it onto the runway. But the hauntingly gorgeous silvered bronze and rock crystal jewelry -- which was inspired by a hodgepodge of references, from sci-fi to Victorian natural history museum to Frankenstein -- perfectly echoes the Mulleavy sisters' vision.

blog_rodarte_necklace.jpg"Crystal is an important element in Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, used to reanimate the patchwork corpse monster, a sentiment we thought reflected the Mulleavy's dresses," explains Walsh. The 21-piece lineup, he says, was also inspired by medical experiments from the turn of the 19th century (think creepy specimens under bell jars) and sculptor Rachel Whiteread's Embankment installation.

The collection, Walsh and Chin's fourth collaboration with Rodarte, will be sold at Colette in Paris and Capitol in Charlotte, North Carolina this fall.
