Caroline the Great

blog_Caroline.jpgSitting in the stands at last night's U.S. Open, I seemed to be the only person cheering on Danish player Caroline Wozniacki. It's not that I have anything against newbie American phenom Melanie Oudin—I just have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for Wozniacki. When I interviewed the 19-year-old back in June, she had just broken into the top 10 of the Sony Ericsson WTA tour with a number nine ranking. We joked that she only had eight more steps to go. Little did we know then just how fast she'd be on the move. After easily beating Oudin, she's now set to take on Yanina Wickmayer, a Belgian ranked 50, tomorrow in the semifinals. Our bets are on Wozniacki, and that we see her Saturday at the championship match.
