Daily Gem: Jemma Wynne’s Pretty Pieces

blog_treasure_banner.jpgblog_wynne_01.jpgWe’re off to the couture jewelry show in Las Vegas next week, so in preparation, the ladies at Jemma Wynne gave us a sneak peek at some of their jewels we’ll be seeing there. We loved everything, but were especially intrigued by the way the designers have played with tourmalines on pendants (above) and earrings—so pretty and just perfect for the summer.

Daily Gem: Lucia Odeschalchi's Fringe Delights

blog_treasure_banner.jpgI wore a pair of these fabulous fringe earrings to an event earlier this week and received so many compliments I just had to share them with you. Designed by Italian jeweler Lucia Odeschalchi, the shoulder dusters are chic and graphic in an Art Deco sort of way. Not to mention that they immediately dress up any look.

Beauty Obsession of the Week: Warhol’s Montauk, All Bottled Up

Before Montauk had the Surf Lodge it had Eothen, Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey’s cliff-side compound that was used as a crash pad by Jackie O, Lee Radziwill, the Rolling Stones and Elizabeth Taylor in the Seventies and Eighties. The 20-acre estate was purchased by the pair in 1971 for the now-inconceivable price of $225,000. While the majority of the land was donated to the Nature Conservancy upon Warhol’s death, the 5.6-acre parcel that housed the property’s buildings was bought by J.Crew’s Mickey Drexler for a rumored $27 million in 2007.

blog_warhol_01.jpg While Andy was not terribly fond of spending time out East (apparently his wig did not cooperate with the Montauk wind), he was inspired enough to create 632 silk screen prints of the Montauk sunset. Four of them appear on the fronts and backs of Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Montauk, a sultry floral and sexy wood scent meant to evoke the beach at twilight. There is only one fragrance, but it comes bottled up with two different facades – one with blue and purple-hued sunsets, the other with yellow and pink ones. Thankfully, they both arrive on counter on Memorial Day.

$145 to $220; bondno9.com

Daily Gem: Yossi Harari’s Gilver Gems

blog_treasure_banner.jpg Yossi Harari, who was born in Israel and spent part of his childhood in Turkey, is no stranger to ancient objects and beautiful artifacts. His jewelry line, which he launched in 1992 with the opening of his first atelier in Istanbul, is a beautiful display of unique craftsmanship. In fact, a few years ago, Harari trademarked his very own metal: Gilver, a mix of 24k gold and silver. His latest collection is named Topkapi, after the famous Topkapi palace in Istanbul. Here’s one of our favorite pieces from the batch.

Get Your Fill In The Hamptons

blog_skinlaser_01.jpgIf you are one of the lucky swells who go East on Memorial Day and don’t return to the fair island of Manhattan until it’s back-to-school time, you’ll be happy to know that you can now get city-quality injections and peels in the country (assuming you are, in fact, among those who think of the Hamptons as the country).

The Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, the Manhattan home of Drs. Roy Geronemus and Fredric Brandt, is opening a Southampton outpost (above) to be manned by dermatologist Elliot T. Weiss, who will offer everything from Botox to body checks. “People out here want the best, and for that, you have had to come into the city,” says Weiss, who just moved to Sagaponack full time after a two-year fellowship with Geronemus in the city. “Nothing in the vicinity comes close to offering the range of services that we’re going to have.”

That will include everything from tattoo and scar removal to injections of a bevy of fillers; plus, Weiss, who will perform every procedure himself, made sure they were equipped to do skin cancer checks and mole removal. His favorite toy at the moment? The new Fraxel Re:store Dual laser. “The more we’ve used it, the more we realized it filled a gap we didn’t even realize existed,” says Weiss. “It’s revolutionary for sun damage, fine lines, even pre-cancerous lesions on the face. Who doesn’t have sun damage? I think a lot of people will benefit from it.”

For patients who only want hard-core stuff (CO2 lasers, more intensive surgical procedures, etc.) that the Southampton location doesn’t offer, a car service will be provided to and from the Manhattan office, located just outside of the entrance to the Queens-Midtown tunnel. Weiss will do follow-up appointments back on the East End. And, while he is still finalizing his schedule, there will be Saturday and Sunday hours for you weekenders, too.

This Week's Model: Karolina Kurkova

blog_skinny_banner.jpgSix months after home-delivering (!) a bouncing baby boy, Karolina Kurkova is back and better than ever. (Just take a look at that microscopic waist and endless legs on display in June's "Best In Show" feature) She attributes her lightning fast return to form to eating an annoyingly healthy diet (think zero processed foods and gallons of green juices) and shaking her groove thing at Tracy Anderson's studio. Still, she gets the guilts just like every other working mama. Read on and learn how she juggles supermodel-dom with the new-mom thing.

blog_kurkova_01.jpgKurkova in "Best in Show," shot by Craig McDean

You already have your figure back! Did you have a lot of weight to lose?
I didn't gain much weight, and I think the secret was really staying active throughout my pregnancy. I did Pilates, a lot of weight training, I walked a lot and I traveled. I lived my life, you know? And I was eating really healthy, taking good supplements and vitamins, drinking green juices and just making sure I was putting the best stuff in my body. I didn't eat much junk, and I was lucky I didn't really crave it, either. So I'm all about listening to your body. But obviously you want to try to give it more natural foods, and fruits, good vitamins, fish oils, fiber. Lots of fiber when you're pregnant!

So how did you get back in shape?
I've been working a lot with Tracy Anderson at her studio. After I had my baby, I wanted to try something different. I didn't want to be in the gym doing weights. And I like Tracy. She's a working mom like me and she understands that, and understands a woman's body. It's been really fun. I'd done gymnastics and ballet earlier in my life, and she incorporates the barre, and you kind of hang there—it's a bit of a mishmash of everything. A little ballet, a lot of dancing, funk cardio. As a woman, where else can you go and listen to fast music and really dance? Especially after you have a baby, it's not like you have a lot of time to go dance! So it's a great place to just go and be, and feel good, feel sexy and sweat.

blog_kurkova_02.jpgFrom left: A pregnant Kurkova in August 2009; Kurkova at the 2010 Costume Institute gala earlier this month.

Do you follow Tracy's food regimen too?
I haven't tried the food delivery, but I've heard it's good. I just try to eat really healthy. I always do my own thing. We still do a lot of fresh green fruit juices, and try to cook as much as we can so that everything's light, delicious and gluten-free. We don't really eat anything that's white, or processed. And we try to buy things from little farms and local places to support those businesses. I'm a big believer in that.

Are you modeling less now? It sounds like you're still keeping up a pretty intense schedule.
I did take a few months off, to make sure we bonded and established a relationship as a family—not just me and the baby, but my husband, too. But now I'm back to work and it's actually busier than ever. I'm having more fun, and it's almost like I have a higher purpose now. I mean, I never did stuff just for me anyway. I've always kind of done it for everybody around me, to help people and make them happy. I don't look at it like, "Oh, I'm doing it so I can buy a better bag or a new apartment." But definitely, it's challenging. How do you balance being a working woman, a good mom and a wife? It's tough, but kind of exciting, too. It's so easy to be stressed about it and put pressure on yourself. Like, "If I'm not there, I'm not a good mom." I'm just really glad to be back to work, and I'm fortunate that sometimes when I have to go away for a few days, I can take my son. I want to incorporate him into my life as much as possible. And he's getting used to being in different places and around new people. I think he likes it!

Daily Gem: Padma's Latest Collection

blog_treasure_banner.jpgOn a recent spring day, we shared a lovely afternoon with Padma Lakshmi in her lower Manhattan studio. While the new mom just recently gave birth to her baby daughter Krishna, she looked fitter than ever and was full of energy, enthusiastically chatting about everything from her trunk show at Bergdorf the next day to the up-and-coming season of Top Chef. As we sipped tea and ate samosas (homemade by her mother who had just come to town from Los Angeles) we tried on the latest pieces from her new Padma collection named Bactria, after the ancient country which sits between the mountains of Hindu Kush and Amu Darya—now present day Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The lineup, inspired by the area’s silk trade route, is largely made from gunmetal silver that’s been polished to look like slate, as well as gold and rich colored stones. Lakshmi says she also referenced oriental, Indian and Maasai themes to weave together her striking collection, which will be available at Bergdorf Goodman in August. We can’t wait.

We Can’t Wait To Get Down To This Store

blog_allsaints_02.jpg When I lived in London, AllSaints was my go-to for deconstructed, edgy pieces with an Alexander Wang or Rick Owens feel but for half the price. So when I found out the British chain was opening its first New York store, I quickly booked an appointment to preview the latest merch. Some of my favorites included a great shearling bomber jacket, perfectly worn-in fringed ankle boots and butter-soft leather bags. The store officially opened a few hours ago—here’s hoping my must-haves are still in stock!
