After covering the fine jewelry market for nearly six years, it’s
not often that I’m surprised by a new material (beetle wings,
meteorites, nail clippings, anyone?). But on a recent visit to Ariane
Zurcher’s home to view her latest collection (she sells
exclusively by appointment) she showed me a real wonder: a dinosaur
vertebrae fossil. She set the relic, which her husband gave her well
before she began making jewelry, into a ring and it’s now part
of—another shocker—her new bridal collection.
