Talking about an 'Evolution'

blog_evolution_01.jpgWhile on an appointment at Atelier Minyon for a sneak peek at their fall 2010 collection, I came across a very bold and interesting cuff. Known as The Bone Bracelet, the oversized piece was covered in oxidized silver, 24-karat gold, rubies, diamonds and, most noteworthy, made with bones from an Opossum. It turns out Turkish jewelry designer Alp Sagnak was inspired to design this unique piece after a visit to his neighborhood retailer, Evolution, a SoHo shop that sells natural history collectibles -- everything from snake vertebrae to butterfly fossils. When Alp came across the Opossum tibia and fibula bones, which he says "in Turkish are unique because they are the only bones with two joints," he knew he had the opportunity to create something truly special. The Bone Bracelet retails for $10,500 and is sold at Atelier Minyon, New York.
