Going Native
A summer spent living in Morocco was the impetus for Cobra Society,
Alexandra Davis’s line of footwear fashioned from Berber rugs handwoven
by women in the Middle Atlas mountains. Each rug takes a month to create
and is then cut and stitched into boots that are constructed using the
Goodyear welt technique with which traditional English dress shoes are
made. The result is a sturdy pair of statement-makers that—given fall’s
array of indigenous prints (see a look from Proenza Schouler, below left)—happen to be right on trend (net-a-porter.com; $1,195).
