This Week's Model: Constance Jablonski

blog_skinny_banner.jpgblog_constance_01.jpgWalking in any runway show is an accomplishment in itself, but hitting the catwalk 72 times in a season is absolutely unheard of—unless you're French golden girl Constance Jablonski (seen here at Stella McCartney). During the spring 2010 shows, the 18-year-old Lille native was by far the most-seen face. Like so many models, Jablonski says she never had fashion aspirations growing up. "I wasn't that interested in campaigns or magazines," she says. "I actually wanted to be a tennis player." Still, despite her initial lack of interest, Jablonski is now a veritable star whom we expect to see more of in campaigns and editorials—including our own January issue, where she'll be sporting loads of funky denim in a shoot by Claudia Knoepfel.

blog_constance_02.jpgFrom left: Balmain spring 2010; Balenciaga spring 2010.

So, your dream was to be a tennis player?
Yeah, I played tennis for like 9 years and I was doing every competition, even the regionals in the North of France. I still play near Chelsea Piers, but of course not as much as before.

Did you have a favorite model when you were younger?
I was crazy about Elle Macpherson. She modeled, acted and did everything. She was a huge example for me.

blog_constance_03.jpgFrom left: Calvin Klein spring 2010; Derek Lam spring 2010.

What was it like to walk in over 70 shows this season?
It was unbelievable—I enjoyed every minute of it. Balmain was my favorite because I was working with such top models for the first time like Daria [Werbowy] and Carmen Kass. Plus I was so happy to work with the stylist, Emmanuelle Alt. She has such amazing style.

blog_constance_04.jpgFrom left: Topshop campaign spring 2009; Y-3 campaign spring 2009.

Best moment?
At Y-3, I met soccer player Zinedine Zidane, who kicked balls at the finale of the show. He is huge in France, like God!!

blog_constance_06.jpgAbove: Cesare Paciotti campaign fall 2009.

What was your favorite campaign that you've done so far?
For fall, I did a Cesare Paciotti campaign with Carine Roitfeld. It was so crazy to meet her and work with her. She was so nice!

You're new to New York. Where do you like to hang out?
There's this little French restaurant on St. Marks Place called Jules that's great. Besides that I'm either hanging out in Central Park, shopping at Curve in SoHo or going to Broadway shows. I just saw Wicked.

blog_constance_05.jpgFrom left: Moschino campagin fall 2009; backstage at Hermes spring 2010.

What else do you do in your spare time?
I like to play the piano but I don't have one here. I need to get one.

I noticed that you post on Facebook quite a bit; how did you first get into it?
I'm on Facebook, but I have a private profile. The one you are talking about is not mine! There are like 12 different profiles on there and I can't take them down. It's crazy, but they post a bunch of photos and videos! It is so weird.

This Week's Model: Karmen Pedaru

blog_skinny_banner.jpg blog_modelKarmen_profile.jpg Despite her sultry appearance, 19-year-old Karmen Pedaru (seen here backstage at Chloe) is actually a bit of a tomboy. The Estonian native and New York transplant played goalie on the Estonia national soccer team for a year before she quit to pursue modeling. ("I had the best times when I was with them," she says.) Pedaru first hit the fashion scene after landing a 2006 Teen Vogue editorial and debuting at Christopher Kane during the spring 2007 season. But it wasn't until the fall 2008 collections when she walked for Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Dries Van Noten that her career really went into overdrive. Pedaru may be fierce on the runway, but the poor girl's greatest fear is the dentist; we spoke with her after her most recent appointment.

blog_modelKarmen_ad4.jpg Above: Y-3 fall 2008 campaign.

Have you always had a dental phobia?
Yeah, I think it started when I was a child. With the needles and drilling, the experience was never pleasant.

And how was your appointment?
It was actually surprisingly painless. I needed two root canals and new crowns, but my dentist, Pia Lieb, explained everything to me to make sure I understood what she was doing. She made me really feel at ease.

blog_modelKarmen_parisRunways.jpg From left: Valentino spring 2010; Viktor and Rolf spring 2010

blog_modelKarmen_jillstuartAd.jpg Above: Jill Stuart fall 2009 campaign.

We've heard you have quite the sweet tooth.
Yes I do. I love all chocolate candies and cookies, but I hate sweets with nuts inside. My favorite cookies are Karlie Kloss's -- she makes the best chocolate cookies in the world.

Have you always been very athletic?
My grandfather was a professional basketball player, and my father used to do a lot of sports, so I started with basketball when I was six years old, then I did soccer and handball. I used to have, like, three trainings a day. I also danced for four years, but I wouldn't go to most of the trainings because it was too boring for me.

blog_modelKarmen_ad2.jpg From left: Gucci Eyewear campaign fall 2009; D&G cruise 2009

What do you miss most about Estonia?
My grandmother's food! Everything she makes is just so good!

Does anything in New York come close?
My favorite restaurant is Lure -- they have the best oysters there -- but Patisserie des Ambassade is also really good.

blog_modelKarmen_ads1.jpg From left: Derek Lam campaign fall 2010; M Missoni campaign spring 2009

Do you have any other hobbies?
I love to paint, but I suck, so I never show my paintings to anyone.

Aside from cookie-baking Karlie, who are your other model friends?
I love Abbey Lee [Kershaw] and Freja [Beha Ericksen]. They are just the coolest girls to hang out with.

blog_modelkarmen_ad3.jpg Above: Jill Stuart Beauty campaign fall 2009

How do you balance modeling with your personal life?
I never mix my work with my personal life. When I'm with my boyfriend or [non-model] friends, we never talk about fashion. For them, I'm just a normal 19-year-old girl.

This Week's Model: Kendra Spears

blog_skinny_banner.jpg
blog_KendraPortrait1.jpg With her all-American good looks and bombshell body (not to mention that perfectly placed mole), it’s no wonder that Kendra Spears, 21 (seen here in Calvin Klein's summer 2009 campaign), has been drawing comparisons to Cindy Crawford. Unlike the senior supermodel, however, Spears got her break in a very wired-era way—by entering the 2008 Ford Supermodel of the World contest via MySpace. Although she didn’t win the top title, the Seattle native walked away with a contract and in less than two years hit the runways for Lanvin and Nina Ricci and landed a campaign with Prada. Although her career is currently on overload Spears also manages to go to school part-time—she’s a sociology major at Portland State University.

blog_kendraRunway1.jpg From left, Bottega Veneta spring 2010; Oscar de la Renta spring 2010

What is it like being known as “Little Cindy?”
I'm very happy to be compared to such a great model. I’m just waiting for my Pepsi contract!

What do you think is your best physical attribute?
I think my favorite are my teeth…ahhheem, Crest!

blog_kendraPrada.jpg Above, Prada fall/winter 2009 ad campaign

What was the highlight of the spring 2010 collections for you?
Honestly, it was just a miracle to be able to work it out with school. But in a way, all the traveling I do actually forces me to study.

Did you have any embarrassing moments during the season?
Well, during a hurried interview backstage an investigatory journalist asked me what I liked to do when I was at home and I said, "nothing too commotious." Afterwards, I realized commotious isn't even a word. I couldn’t stop laughing at myself.

blog_kendraRunways2.jpg From left, Carolina Herrera spring 2010; Givenchy spring 2010

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
Racking up student loans and waiting on tables.

Did you have any interesting jobs growing up?
I worked part time as an assistant to the owner of a company called LiftPort which was (and may still be) in the forefront of technologies, mostly carbon nanotubes, to build an elevator into space.

Did you have any other career aspirations, asides from modeling?
I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. I thought I could stomach being around guts all day, but I've gotten to know myself a little better.

Where do you like to hang out in Seattle?
Gasworks is an old gas plant on Lake Union that has been converted into a park. It has a great view of downtown and the lake. When I'm in Seattle, I just try to keep it low key in contrast to my work weekends, which include a lot of commuting, so I'm mostly hanging out with my family and boyfriend.

How did you meet your boyfriend?
We were both doing a month long tour of the Amazon in '69 and....I wish! We met through a mutual friend.

blog_kendraMagazine.jpg From left, Dazed and Confused July 2009; Elle France October 2009

Do people in school recognize you from the runway?
No one here ever has—I'll have a pretty good laugh if that happens.

What are your hidden talents?
I love piano and crochet. I started taking piano lessons in fourth grade because I wanted to be able to jam with my very musically talented family. As for crocheting, my mom kinda encouraged it because I was always breaking remotes and clicking pens from lack of anything better to do with my hands.

What did you dress up as for Halloween?
A slutty.... just kidding. I just handed out candy with my Dad.

This Week's Model: Heidi Mount

blog_skinny_banner.jpgblog_mount_01.jpgWhen it comes to fashion fairy godmothers, a girl couldn’t ask for anyone better than Karl Lagerfeld. Just ask Heidi Mount. The long and lanky chameleon began modeling in 2003, but it wasn’t until the designer came calling that Mount really hit the big time. Since opening and closing the spring 2009 Chanel show, the Utah native (seen here in Chanel's 2008 resort campaign) replaced the fabulous Claudia Schiffer as the face of the house and went on to land a slew of other campaigns including spring 2009 Alexander McQueen and fall 2009 Dolce & Gabbana. Little known fact: The 22-year-old Mount, a young wife and mother, is also quite prolific on Twitter. (Right before this interview she posted, “sitting in bed doing an interview over the phone. If I could always be this comfortable at work.”)

blog_mount_08.jpgChanel's spring 2009 ad campaign.

What’s it like working with Karl Lagerfeld?
I would consider him a friend. He definitely gives me advice—like, if I suggest something about work, he’ll tell me whether he agrees with it or not. As for life, he’s done a lot and been through a lot, so he gives me tidbits on friends, what kind of people should be in your life and what to do with yourself. My favorite is when he has told me about people he trusted and whether that it turned out good or bad.

blog_mount_04.jpgFrom left, Hermes spring 2010; backstage at Carolina Herrera spring 2010

You live in the East Village—what are your neighborhood hangouts?
Right now, I like this Mexican restaurant called San Loco that’s a little hole in the wall. There’s a couple of them in the city, but I go to the one right by Thompson Square Park. I also go to Café Pick Me Up a lot. They have a really good vegetable pizza.

blog_mount_03.jpgFrom left, Yves Saint Laurent spring 2010; John Galliano spring 2010

You have a bike, right?
I was really anti-bike for a long time but my husband talked me into getting him a bike. Then when he got one, I wanted to ride too. I don’t like to ride through the city because that makes me nervous, but I go to East End Park and other places.

blog_mount_06.jpgDolce & Gabbana's fall/winter 2009 ad campaign.

You’ve got almost 2,000 followers on Twitter. How did you get hooked?
I started in August because I had a Facebook account that I opened so my family and friends back home could see pictures of my son, but then I started getting all these requests from people I didn’t know, and I just couldn’t reject anyone. So I messaged all those people and told them that I didn’t want to be rude and that I was getting on Twitter. This way I pick and choose what I want people to know.

Tell us how you spend your free time.
I have such a TV problem. I really like Desperate Housewives and Dexter right now. I’m also trying to get everyone to watch Cash Cab on the Discovery Channel. It reminds me a bit of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in a cab. I love when he picks up drunk people in the middle of the night. It’s hysterical. I love to watch some Maury and to dance to Britney Spears while I’m cleaning.

blog_mount_05.jpgFrom left, Bally's fall/ winter 2008 ad campaign; Armani's fall/ winter 2008 ad campaign.

Any other hobbies?
I’ve also started knitting recently. I’m a very fidgety person, so I always have to have do something with my hands. I just taught myself from a book, and I feel like I’ve picked up pretty quickly. During the shows, I was handing scarves out to everyone because I had too many! I’m working on a dress right now that I’m enjoying.

Could this be the beginning of your own fashion line?
Oh no, no, no!

What are you other career plans then?
I try not to think about it too much, but one thing I’d really like to try to be an aesthetician. I’m a zit popper and I enjoy it, so I’ve looked into it.

Really?
I do it on my husband all the time.

This Week's Model: Du Juan

blog_skinny_banner.jpg blog_duJuan_H.jpgJust because a girl has a beauty queen title doesn't mean she has what it takes to be a supermodel. Willowy looker Du Juan (seen here backstage at Carolina Herrera), however, does. The former Miss China debuted at Chanel couture in 2006, and has become a veritable runway sensation, walking for Louis Vuitton and Anna Sui, among others. A classically trained ballerina, she's also been featured in French Vogue, Allure and W editorials and Gap and David Yurman ad campaigns. With a perfect pout and can-do attitude, we can see why Du Juan is at the top of her game.

blog_duJuan_runways1.jpg From left: Derek Lam spring 2010, Carolina Herrera spring 2010

How did you prepare for the spring collections?
I take my time packing. I normally take two large suitcases that I put everything in from clothes to beauty products to food. I've gotten quite good at it, but my first few seasons it took me at least two weeks just to pack!!! The most important thing is to get myself in a positive mood. The shows can get really tiring and quite lonely, so I need to prepare myself mentally.

What were your favorite shows?
I always look forward to Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui.

What's the one item you carry throughout the collections?
My camera!!! I like to record what I see and experience during the shows. It's such a great adventure. Everything is so new and exciting and I want to capture the memories.

blog_duJuan_runways2.jpg From left: Jason Wu spring 2010, Backstge at Marc Jacobs spring 2010

What's your all-time favorite show?
The very first show I did when I started modeling in the west was for Chanel couture in 2006, so it will always have a special place in my heart. The staging, atmosphere and clothes were so amazing. Just being there was surreal, exciting and nerve wracking.

You've been all over the world. What are your favorite cities?
My favorite city will always be Shanghai. I was born and raised there, so nothing is better than coming home. I do love New York, though. The energy, street, noise and people give you a buzz like no other city.

What's the biggest perk of the job?
Who doesn't like free clothes? I always love what I get from Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam and Alexander Wang. My favorite piece this season is a cropped winter jacket from Marc Jacobs.

blog_duJuan_ads3.jpg From left: Target fall 2009 campaign, David Yurman fall 2009 campaign

Who's your favorite designer?
Lanvin's Alber Elbaz!! I love his clothes, but I love him even more.

Who are your model friends?
Emma Pei, Liu Wen, Ai Tominaga and I love Sasha [Pivovarova]. She's been to China many times and we've become good friends.

Who is your model icon?
Kate Moss.

blog_duJuan_ads2.jpg From left: Armani fall 2008 campaign, Gap fall 2009 campaign

You're one of the few super-successful Asian models working today. How do you feel about that?
It makes me feel proud in a way, but I also feel the pressure to do well, work harder and to make sure I represent Chinese models well internationally. I love this job and I've broken many barriers in my short career, but I really don't think that in the end, race is what's most important. We all do the same job and same work, so being a good model is what counts.

What's your guilty pleasure?
Chips! I know they're not good for me, but I love them.

This Week's Model: Arlenis Sosa

blog_skinny_banner.jpg
blog_sosa_headshot.jpg Known as much for her firecracker personality as her glowing face, 20-year-old Arlenis Sosa (here, backstage at Badgley Mischka spring 2010) is one of fashion’s newest darlings. Discovered in early 2008 by a local designer in her native Dominican Republic, Sosa was quickly scooped up by Marilyn Model Agency. In just over a year and a half, the bright-eyed beauty has shown unprecedented versatility, appearing in a diverse range of magazines including Time, i-D and Italian Vogue. Additionally, she has become the face of iconic labels such as Lancome and the Gap. We spoke with Sosa after she wrapped up Paris fashion week and headed for the D.R. for some much-needed R&R.

From left: Oscar de la Renta Spring 2010, Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2010.

Tell us about your favorite show this season.
I loved Oscar de la Renta. He shows the elegance of women. My favorite look was his dark blue dress.

What kept you going during such a long slate of shows?
I made sure to train and eat right. I also always kept water, vitamin C, nuts and fruits with me at all times. On set, I listened to Christian, romantic and merengue music to keep me relaxed.

What parties were you most excited about this season?
Calvin Klein. Alexander Wang and Helmut Lang’s Fashion Night Out events were also fun.

blog_sosa_ads.jpg
From left: Lancome beauty campaign, Gap Spring 2009 campaign.

Who are your closest model friends?
Jourdan [Dunn], Sessilee [Lopez], Eniko [Mihalik], Constance [Jablonski], Karlie Kloss and Charlotte di Calypso.

What has been your all-time favorite post-show goody bag item from a designer?
I love my Rachel Roy jumpsuit.

blog_sosa_runways2_1.jpg
From left: Hermes Spring 2010, Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2010.

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
I would be working at a charity and going to college part time.

Outside of modeling, what do you love to do?
Boxing is great.

Now that shows are over, what’s the first thing you want to do?
Go home, get a massage and sleep.

This Week's Model: Aminata Niaria

blog_skinny_banner.jpgblog_aminata_01.jpgAlthough Gisele Bundchen's big break came when she was eating at a McDonalds, Sengalese head turner Aminata Niaria's discovery story is even better. Three years ago while walking to school in Paris, the gorgeous twenty something unwittingly caught the attention of Alber Elbaz. The designer immediately booked Niaria for his spring 2007 Lanvin show and the rest, as they say, is history. In the last three weeks alone, Niaria left the fashion pack swooning as she walked the runways for Rodarte, Carolina Herrera, Narciso Rodriguez, Fendi and MaxMara. We got a hold of the busy model in the midst of Paris fashion week.

blog_aminata_05.jpgBackstage at Rodarte.

You've walked in an amazing slate of shows—what's been your favorite thus far?
Rodarte! The clothes were amazing, and they used such strong girls.

Of the four fashion weeks, which do you enjoy the most?
There is always lots of action in New York, but I just love Paris. It's a beautiful city.

Who are your favorite designers?
Lanvin, of course! I also love Dior, Louis Vuitton, Rick Owens and Balenciaga. Prada, Verasce and Cavalli are my Milano faves.

blog_aminata_02.jpgFrom left, debuting at Lanvin spring 2007; Lanvin spring 2009.

We've heard some designers don't pay for shows—
Some don't pay in money, but they pay in trade. It's cool!

What have been some of your favorite designer gifts?
I received a great cardigan from Ohne Titel and a vest from Narciso Rodriguez.

Who are your model icons?
Iman and Naomi.

blog_aminata_04.jpgUngaro's fall 2009 ad campaign.

What are your thoughts on diversity on the runway?
It makes me feel sad. I hope that it will change with time.

What is your off-duty uniform?
I live in a great pair of skinny jeans and comfortable boots. Basically, Levis and Uggs, which are so comfy for traveling, and easy to slip on and off between shows.

We've heard you are interested in graphic design?
I never concentrated on graphic design in school, but working in fashion has sparked my fascination for artistic presentation. I would want to be a graphic designer if I wasn't modeling.

blog_aminata_03.jpgFrom left, Narcisco Rodriguez spring 2010; Fendi spring 2010.

What do you as soon as you get home after a show?
I usually take a long hot bath and catch up with my mom on the phone.

What's your guilty pleasure?
Sengalese cuisine! I love yassa!

This Week's Model: Lakshmi Menon

blog_skinny_banner.jpg

blog_menon_headShot.jpgBeing South Indian, I quietly championed the Bangalore-born, Lakshmi Menon (here, on the most recent Michael Kors runway) when I first spotted her in a spring 2008 Hermes campaign where she posed alongside a duo of elephants. Up until that point I had never even seen anyone who remotely looked like me in a major fashion publication. I was even more smitten when I glimpsed the exotic stunner in person when she dropped by the W offices for a casting. The 26-year-old broke into the international arena just two years ago, when she walked the spring 2008 Jean Paul Gaultier and Hermes runways. She's since landed a slew of ad campaigns (fall 2008 Givenchy, spring 2009 MaxMara) and editorials (Vogue, V, Dazed & Confused). I finally got my chance to chat up the brainy beauty -- she has a bachelor's degree in developmental sociology -- after New York fashion week.

blog_menon_HermesMaxmara.jpg From left: Hermes Spring 2008 campaign, Max Mara Spring 2009 campaign.

What has been your favorite look this season?
I loved all of Derek Lam's collection. It was feel-good, bold and colorful, and the navy blue crepe blouse and the floral high waisted skirt were my favorites. I also adored my little red dress at Jason Wu.

What are your must-haves when prepping for a show?
Water, Blackberry, iPod, music by Kings of Convenience and a good book.

blog_menon_WuLamRunway.jpg From left: Jason Wu Spring 2010, Derek Lam Spring 2010.

What shows are you most excited about?
Givenchy, Rick Owens, Stella McCartney, Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garcons, to name a few.

What are the best things you've ever gotten in a post-show goody bag?
A Givenchy jacket and Alexander Wang tees.

blog_menon_givenchyFW08.jpg Above: Givenchy Fall 2008 campaign.

You're one of the few Indian models working internationally --
It's sad. I am very grateful to Riccardo Tisci and Jean Paul Gaultier who really gave me my first real break to be a part of the western fashion industry. I wish there were more Indian girls in international fashion. Hopefully, that will all change with India and other Southeast Asian economies becoming new, emerging markets.

There are a lot of talented fashion designers out of India these days. Which ones stand out in your mind?
I'm very fond of Savio Jon, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Hidden Harmony!

blog_menon_Herrera.jpg From left: Carolina Herrera Spring 2010, Menon backstage.

What other career plans do you have?
If I weren't modeling, I would pursue my masters in developmental sociology.

What is the first thing you do to unwind after a show?
Take a warm bath and get a good night's rest.

This Week's Model: Imogen Morris Clarke

blog_skinny_banner.jpg blog_imogen_headshot.jpg In the modeling world, there are two major arenas for making it big: catwalks and covers. Of course the latter is a little harder to come by, which is why Imogen Morris Clarke—who landed the cover of the Japanese edition of Dazed & Confused before even setting foot on a runway—is considered a star on the rise. Since that auspicious print debut, the 17-year-old London native (here backstage at Marc by Marc Jacobs) has walked in fashion's most coveted shows, including Burberry Prorsum, Prada and Alexander McQueen, and booked such major ad campaigns as D&G spring 2009 and BCBG Max Azria fall 2009. After a dazzling start to the spring 2010 collections during New York Fashion Week, we spoke to Morris Clarke right before she headed for Europe.

blog_imogen_Vadvertisement.jpg From left: BCBG Max Azria's fall 2009 campaign, D&G's spring 2009 campaign.

What were your favorite New York shows?
Marc Jacobs was so theatrical; I felt like a cosmic ballerina. I also loved Isaac Mizrahi—the set was incredible.

Throughout the season, what's always in your bag?
My iPod, dried fruit, gum, paracetamol, a hair brush and some form of school work to make me feel like I'm keeping up with my studies.

What music helps you prepare on set?
It's a complete mixture, but right now I like Empire of the Sun, La Roux and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

blog_imogen_runways.jpg From left: Isaac Mizrahi spring 2010 ; Vera Wang spring 2010.

Post-show, what are your favorite places to eat?
In New York, I love to get sushi from Aja, macrobiotic cuisine from Souen and burgers from Empire Diner.

Did you get anything special in your goody bags this year?
I got some beautiful clothes from Phillip Lim, including a blazer that I absolutely love.

Which leg of collections are you most excited about?
I'm really looking forward to Paris, especially Chanel.

blog_imogen_candid.jpg Clarke backstage at Izaac Mizrahi.

Who are your favorite designers?
It's always changing, but at the moment, I love Phillip Lim, Herve Leger, Preen, Marc Jacobs, Lanvin and Gucci.

What would you like do in a few years?
I hopefully will be acting and focusing on my studies. I'd also love to own a python named Bambi.

This Week's Model: Dorothea Barth Jörgensen

blog_skinny_banner.jpgblog_dorothea_01.jpgFew models can say they walked in over 40 major shows in their very first season, but that is exactly what 18-year-old Dorothea Barth Jörgensen did during the fall 2009 collections. With her nymph-like looks and killer stride, the Swedish teen wowed at shows like Lanvin, Calvin Klein and Proenza Schouler, and this week has already strutted her stuff for BCBG, Richard Chai and DKNY. Look for her to dazzle throughout the rest of the collections season.

blog_dorothea_03.jpgFrom left: DKNY spring 2010 ; Richard Chai spring 2010.

How has New York fashion week been so far?
BCBG was a great way to start off the week. The designer is super sweet, and the collection was strong. I also loved the simple make up.

Did you do anything for Fashion’s Night Out?
Unfortunately, I didn’t because I had hair and makeup tests for Alberta Ferretti until very late! I haven’t even been to any great fashion party yet, so I don’t know what to expect. I am looking forward to socializing at the end of the shows, though.

What is the first thing models do after a show?
Haha, we go straight for the coffee and catering table to see if there is any good food.

blog_dorothea_04.jpgAn Alberta Ferretti ad campaign.

What helps you get through collections?
I have to have my cell phone, iPod, tea and lattes.

What music have you been listening to?
Patti Smith, Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend and Empire of the Sun.

Rumor has it that you like to make your own clothes.
It’s seldom I sew something from scratch, but I love to remake clothes. I turn things inside out, up and down; I twist and cut them too. My latest piece is a one-shoulder dress made in brown silk from a scarf.

blog_dorothea_02.jpgFrom left: Dries Van Noten fall 2009; Proenza Schouler fall 2009.

Can we expect a Dorothea Barth Jörgensen line anytime soon?
I want to design, but nothing specific. I like to be free in my way of thinking, so I sew, paint, act and sing. The important thing is not to care about the results, but to enjoy the process. I have lots of side projects going on!
