I thought that gold was a fabulous color choice for Mrs. Obama today--it's both victorious and regal. Isabel Toledo, who designed the embroidered coat, cardigan and dress was a great choice as she's truly a fashion insider's designer. While watching the ceremony, we were all wondering whether she was wearing jewelry (real or costume) or whether the sparkle at her neck was part of the dress; regardless, we thought she looked great. **Ed's note: We've since learned it was a Victorian paste brooch (see below) from the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection, which is carried at the Chicago boutique Ikram. **
Over the past few days of inaugural events, we've seen plenty of winter coats--many boring, some fussy (think Laura Bush's today). The Zero + Maria Cornejo black cashmere coat Michelle wore on her train trip to DC (below) has a playfully artistic shape. It's nice to see something with a little youth and energy.
