John Waters loves his La Mer

blog_gallery_goround.jpgCelebrity may have slightly overshadowed the art at Marianne Boesky last week, where the inimitable John Waters unveiled Rear Projection, a new series of photographs and sculptures. The crowd appeared more interested in meeting the cult icon than in viewing the pieces, but Waters, never the wallflower, happily obliged by shaking hands and posing for photos. The exhibition consists of 36 photographs (constructed from film stills rearranged or taken out of context to create campy narratives), along with four new pop-inspired sculptures, including La Mer, which resembles a giant-sized tub of, yes, Creme de la Mer.

Waters's work will be included in a number of upcoming exhibitions, including The Making of Art opening in Germany this summer.
