Last Friday night, the lower level of the Whitney was the unlikely site of moshing, crowd surfing and lyric shouting when the museum played host to two bands, Real Estate and Titus Andronicus. It was the kick-off of a series of weekly concerts at the museum, which runs alongside the recently-opened retrospective, Dan Graham: Beyond. Graham's ouevre includes works in performance, video installation and musical collaboration, and the museum has chosen eight (mostly) local acts in the spirit of the artist's musical experimentation.
The music series is free with admission (which is pay-what-you-wish after 6pm) and continues for the next three Fridays, featuring Abe Vigoda, Woods and Vivian Girls. The Graham retrospective runs until October 11.
