Recently, someone sent me what looked like a beautiful diamond engagement ring. As a jewelry editor, it's not uncommon for me to have thousands of dollars worth of gems on my desk. However, I've usually requested them for a photo shoot (and there's usually two armed security guards standing nearby). But the other day, when I opened the unassuming package, a shiny round brilliant cut solitaire ring was just sitting in the box.
Turns out, it's part of a great new "Replica" initiative from LA-based jeweler Jean Dousset (he made Eva Langoria-Parker and Amy Adams's engagement rings). It's Dousset's way of offering clients a "test drive" on his engagement ring collection. He's recreated his rings in six cuts and six settings (all are cubic zirconia and 14 karat gold). The prices range from $289 to $469 and the cost can be put toward the real thing if you order one later.
