According to von Furstenberg Jr., the directive to von Furstenberg Sr.
was “a very, very beautiful silhouette— structured and
utilitarian — not too much ornament, in a color that would go with
our palette, which was made up of a lot of blues and grays,” she
says. “The exterior of the boarding school is a Normandy—almost
porcelain blue-gray, so I thought a gray would be really good. Then we
added an orange, melon-shade in the emblem and the sock garters.”
The result is a mix of skirts, jumpers and blazers that would do any
chic-ster student proud.
Von Furstenberg, 39, says she didn’t exactly have to twist Mama’s arm to get her on board for the coming-of-age tale, which features a cast of
up-and-comers including Rooney Mara, Georgia King and Brie Larson, as well as
Imitation of Christ founder Tara Subkoff. “My mom is incredibly
supportive,” she says. “She’d do anything for me.
There was no coaxing.”
