Southern Comforts: Shopping SCAD

goodpill.jpgIf there's one thing we Southerners embrace more than anything, it's tradition. That's why this pillow caught my eye when it was sent to the W offices last week. The pillow features a print called Savannah Toile, a clever spin on the traditional toile. In lieu of the usual period tableaux, this pattern features Spanish-moss-covered gazebos, dog walkers and bike riders — all things that you'd find in modern-day Savannah, GA. The design was thought up by MFA student Morena Guzman as part of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)'s Working Class Studio, a product development division at the school, where students, alumni and faculty design and sell everything from home wares to greeting cards. Guzman's toile is available on indoor and outdoor pillows ($50), as well as aprons and towels. This Carolina boy can't wait to bedeck his apartment in southern charm!
