The Plaza Athenee is the kind of luxury hotel that hosts famous and powerful people who really and truly don't want to be spotted, followed or photographed. The Upper East Side landmark recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation that's now finally complete, with the exception of its new spa.
What's interesting about the spa is that it's going to be very small. While most luxury hotels these days seem to be competing for the most gargantuan superspa (10 rooms is not at all unusual), the Plaza Athenee's will consist of only four ultra-private treatment rooms, where clients can have their facials, massages, wraps, and even nail treatments. And don't try booking a treatment unless you're also booking a stay at the hotel. The Spa, which opens in mid-May, will be accessible to guests only.
