Renaissance Girl

Manhattan-based fine jewelry designer Jamie Wolf spent ten years as a dancer in the New York City ballet before leaving to focus on jewelry design, so it's no surprise her utterly feminine collections show a restraint and delicateness no doubt learned through her years spent in tutus and pointe shoes. Wolf is now eight seasons into a fine jewelry career (selling wear-forever stackable bands, engraved lockets and drop earrings), but the self-taught designer still cannot ignore the stage calling her name.

Wolf was asked to audition for a part as one of the company members in Darren Aronofsky's film Black Swan (in theaters December 3) by friend and the movie's choreographer, Benjamin Millepied. She got the part and worked through fourteen hour filming days for six weeks alongside actresses-turn-dancers Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. The highlight? Wearing the impeccable Kate and Laura Mulleavy-designed Swan Lake costumes (read our "Five Minutes With the Rodarte Sisters" here). "The costuming for Black Swan is gorgeous," says Wolf. "I think Rodarte and Darren [Aronofsky] were totally committed to making the costumes entirely believable and also unique to the film. They are similar to [what we wore] in New York City Ballet's staging--they were definitely conceived in reality, but have a heightened dramatic quality that emulates the tone of the film."
