Six Pack

blog_maluca_hair.jpg “She’s a bold woman,” says hairstylist and John Frieda creative consultant Harry Josh of Maluca’s roller-wrapped ’do in her “El Tigeraso” music video. In the clip she struts through Washington Heights in multicolored curlers by day and gilded soda cans by night. The Bronx-born crooner did her own locks for the video, but we asked Josh, who has worked on everyone from Gisele to Gwyneth, how he’d re-create her singular look.

STEP 1: Section hair into approximately two-inch-wide sections.
STEP 2: Saturate each section with hairspray or gel.
STEP 3: Roll each piece around a soda can.
STEP 4: Go outside. Draw stares. Walk proud. Break into song. Head for the club.
STEP 5: After dancing, unravel hair from soda cans. Run fingers through curls and shake them out to create what Josh calls a "lifted at the root," voluminous finish.
STEP 6: Recycle cans.
