Current Obsession: Shrinking Handbags

I love an oversized tote. But recently I discovered the beauty in downsizing. Everyone seems to be trading in their extra-large totes for chic, travel sized pouches. I don't go anywhere without my bright blue Comme des Garcons pouch. It is the perfect size to carry my iPhone, credit card, Orbit whitening gum, building security pass, taxi receipts, & Burt's Bees lip balm. Really, what else do you need?

W's Karla Martinez (who introduced me to the pouch trend) has this extra large Pierre Hardy pouch. I love the graphic print and pop of color. PierreHardy.jpg Pierre Hardy pouch, $185, at Pierre Hardy, New York, 646.449.0070.

Another favorite is the Celine "pouchette." Available in solid or two-toned colors, this is the perfect accessory for the girl on the go.

Not only are these pouches convenient, they are also relatively affordable. It's virtually impossible to buy a designer bag without dipping into your savings account, but since these small styles all cost under $425, you no longer need to break the bank to sport a designer look.
