Seeing the Forest Through the Trees at the Ace Hotel

Get lost in the woods without leaving the city in Allied Works Architecture’s latest installation at The Ace Hotel, appropriately named “Forest from the Trees”. The delightfully disorienting space envelops the visitor in an image from Oregon’s Tilamook Forest in “an attempt to dis- and re- orient the experience of a specific room.” It’s a bit disappointing to look up, expecting to see the tops of trees and be met by a ceiling instead, but anything convincing enough to make you look in the first place is arguably cooler.

The “spatial sketch” was created to celebrate Allied Works Architecture’s first book, Allied Works Architecture Brad Cloepfil: Occupation, and for a perfect excuse to check out the space before its two week run is up: Allied Works’ Brad Cloepfil will host Expac 15 at the Ace, “a monthly party for Pacific Northwest expatriates and those that (look) like them,” on April 19.
