Charm School

blog-charm-school-01.jpg Venessa Arizaga doesn’t hold back when it comes to her costume jewelry line. “I’m a magpie—I want to put everything on one piece,” says the 32-year-old Parsons grad, who was a fashion designer for Tuleh, Carolina Herrera, and Zac Posen before turning her baublemaking hobby into a full-time career last year.

Arizaga’s inspirations for Psychedelic Beauty, her trinket-laden fall collection, are seemingly disparate: surreal posters from Seventies artists Peter Max and Keiichi Tanaami meet native crafts from Guatemala and Peru. But the results—like her High Tide necklace, a silver-tone chain with shells, skull charms, glass pearls, and bright yellow thread—are harmonious. “The balance of color you can create with thread,” Arizaga says, “is something metals alone just don’t give you” (venessaarizaga.com; $55 to $585).
