Iconic English clothier Turnbull & Asser opened a new three-story
flagship store (above) in midtown Manhattan last week that features modern
updates on the original Jermyn Street location in London—in other words,
it’s bespoke in every sense of the word. The loungewear room boasts
custom Tracy Kendall wallpaper with 18,000 mother-of-pearl hand-sewn
buttons, which compliment the sumptuous silk brocade robes; the
formalwear room is made from custom-cut Italian marble, offering the
perfect canvas to showcase velvet smoking jackets and two-tail tuxedos. In addition to the Bespoke room, where you can customize anything from your shirt to your umbrella, as well as peruse a soon-to-be-unveiled vintage Rolex collection, the store offers limited-edition products. These include 125-year anniversary shirts made from original 1885 patterns and the just-introduced Turnbull collection—a small, higher-end collection in a series of 20 pieces per style.
Turnbull & Asser's interiorA bonus for history buffs, Turnbull & Asser is chock-full of memorabilia from the brand’s storied history. Keep your eye out for original shirts from the 1920s, wallpaper featuring vintage Turnbull advertisements, and even Winston Churchill’s own velvet siren suit.
