Don’t Miss: The Socrates Shindig

This Friday, the Socrates Sculpture Park—founded in Long Island City in 1986—is throwing an outdoor bash to celebrate a quarter century of championing public art. The event—the so-called Park Side of the Moon—is a work of art in its own right: Rirkrit Tiravanija’s performance piece, untitled 2011 (the way things go) will be recreated via a Thai pig roast dinner that involves slow roasting meat starting at dawn in a kitchen structure built in Thailand.

If that doesn’t satisfy your hunger for the unexpected, the after party will feature music from DJ duo Andrew Andrew and a performance by multimedia artist Jacolby Satterwhite, glow-in-the-dark ping-pong. We’re looking forward to seeing co-host Gavin Brown, along with Marilyn Minter. And did we mention that it’s all set within the park, on the waterfront? Consider this our RSVP. (Dinner tickets, 6:30-8 pm, include a silk-screened t-shirt designed by Tiranvanija; $200; party tickets, 8-11 pm, $25 ($30 at the door))
