Donna Karan’s Must-Haves

With the 4th of July just around the corner, we thought we’d pick the brain of design legend and avid world-traveler Donna Karan to see what she can’t leave home without. We caught up her at her home in Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos. “Parrot Cay is my calm amidst the chaos,” she says. “Since the first time I visited, I knew it would be my sanctuary.”

blog-donna-karan-packing-01.jpg As a pioneer in the concept of season-less dressing—it’s the bedrock of her Urban Zen collection—Karan says she turns to timeless, year-round, multipurpose pieces when she’s trotting the globe. “Like every woman I know, my life is in constant motion,” she says. “So my philosophy of dressing is Buy today, wear forever.”

Her must-haves? Both the Fitted Flare Dress and the Hand Dyed Pareo from Haiti (available at the New York, Sag Harbor, and Los Angeles locations) are easily packable pieces that can be worn and layered in infinite combinations.

Karan also oversees the Urban Zen Foundation, which partners with existing organizations to find ways to empower children, improve healthcare, and preserve cultures—no matter which flag they’re waving. (urbanzen.com)
