NGARE SERIAN, Masai Mara and Mara North Conservancy, Kenya

Founded by KenyanCowboy (by way of England), Alex Walker, this camp features only four tents—making it one of the most intimate camps in the Mara. Walker’s European bushman aesthetic permeates throughout the environs as the place is equal parts rugged and luxurious. There are outdoor soaking tubs overlooking the river, four poster beds, but to get to your tent, you’ll have to cross a rather precarious rope bridge. You’ll get to know your fellow safari goers well at the common “mess” tent which includes a lounge, bar, dining area and fire-pit. You can discuss the day’s big sightings at the communal dinners of river-caught tilapia and South African cabernet.  As for the 4x4 drivers, Alex has assembled some of the most experienced in the Mara—if photography is your passion be sure to request Dixon.
