Predicting the Fashion Trends of 2016

You’ll wear a hoodie

The new year is right around the corner and there is no better time to plan your new wardrobe than in between servings of eggnog and turkey. Here, eight trends you can bank on.

1

Night for Day The silk slip comes out of the boudoir and onto the street. If Céline does it, you should probably do it too.

2

The Shirtdress The shirtdress is the only thing you will wear from April through August. In classic white cotton or pinstripes, designers, like the new label Monse, offered a slew of options.

Pant hems will be long and drag on the ground. And you will love it. We saw a lot of ‘90’s denim à la Aaliyah on the runways, and it feels oh-so-right – a slouchy wide-leg makes so much sense, after the return of the flare a few seasons ago.

4

You’ll wear a hoodie And not just any hoodie – a logo hoodie from cult-favorite gender-bending brand Vetements. It all of a sudden feels like the perfect layering piece again.

5

You will buy Dior and Lanvin Because as of right now this will be your last chance to buy Raf Simon’s or Alber Elbaz’s beautiful work, as the spring collections are the last from each designer at their respective houses.

Red, white and blue No matter the outcome of the presidential election in November, you’ll be feeling very patriotic. It may not be because your party wins the White House, but because Marc Jacobs sent red, white, and blue sequined and embroidered dresses and jackets down his spring runway.

Mansur Gavriel The Mansur Gavriel bucket bag was perhaps the most ubiquitous item of the last two years, selling out so fast the designers could not keep the item in stock. Now, they have created a chic, minimal backpack that we’re bound to see everywhere, very, very soon.

Big Earrings will be Big After years of “personal jewelry” as the ruling denim trend, it will be time for a change. Bigger, bolder jewelry – like Charlotte Chesnais’ sculptural pieces – will be the jewelry to wear in 2016.
