Revisit Carrie Mae Weems’ Enduring Kitchen Table Series

“I knew that I was making images unlike anything I had seen before,” the photographer Carrie Mae Weems says of her iconic Kitchen Table Series, in which she plays a woman acting out her roles as a mother, a lover, and a friend every day over a long period. She didn’t know, though, that it would go on to become a seminal work in its impact on conversations of race, relationships, and women. Take a look at the series here, still as relevant as ever and soon to be published in a stand-alone book by Damiani.
