London’s Lost Jewels
The Cheapside Hoard—a collection of almost 500 pieces of Elizabethan and Early Stuart-period jewelry now on exhibit at the Museum of London—proves that there is such a thing as buried treasure; the precious jewels were discovered by workmen in 1912 under a cellar floor in the London neighborhood of Cheapside.
