JANE'S ADDICTION

Down and Dirty

Verb Dry Shampoo

Ever since Sandra Ballentine wrote about kicking her blowout habit in our October 2013 issue, my contrarian streak has compelled me to seek out pro dry jobs weekly. And since I’m thrifty, I can make a good one last. Here’s how I do it.

1

Day One

Meghan Baldwin, a stylist and colorist at New York’s Eva Scrivo salon, recently finished off my blowout with Kérastase Paris Powder Bluff ($36, kerastase-usa.com). “It prevents oils in our hands from greasing things up,” she says.

2

Day Two

I flip my head over and give my hair a wide-shot mist of Orlando Pita Revive Instant Boost Dry Shampoo ($17 for pack of two, costco .com) to remedy any loss of volume.

3

Day Three

Time to pull it back into a sleek pony. And so the sleek doesn’t look slick, I spray Davines Hair Refresher ($28, davines.com), with its oil-absorbing rice starch, onto my brush.

4

Day Four

By now, my roots are threatening to form greasy clumps. I fight back with a few serious bursts of Pantene Pro-V Root Reboot Dry Shampoo ($7, pantene.com).

5

Day Five

The pony has morphed into a looped-up ’do. Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($21, loveamika.com for salons) helps tame the frizz into submission.

6

Day Six

Too much Verb Dry Shampoo ($14, verbproducts.com), and I look like George Washington. The right dose, however, gets me through the homestretch.
