Go Backstage at Gucci’s Fall 2018 Fashion Show, Which Included Dragons, Decapitated Heads and Other Delightfully Shocking Visuals
Dragons, third eyes, and decapitated heads are all standard trappings of a Game of Thrones episode—but are unusual sights at Milan Fashion Week. Is it really any surprise, though, that Alessandro Michele—the man who recently made the case for aliens being the next superheroes—brought them to the runways nonetheless? The designer opened 90 looks that made up Gucci‘s fall 2018 showing on Wednesday with a model cradling a shockingly realistic replica of her head under her arm as casually as if it were a clutch, and somehow kept up that shock value in almost every single of the dozens of looks to follow, from disturbingly jolly-looking balaclavas to more prosthetic imaginings, like eerily life-like dragon, chameleons, and snakes, courtesy of a Rome-based factory that produces bespoke special and visual effects for the likes of Ridley Scott and Ben Stiller. The last of their contributions appeared on the model who closed out the show‚ accessorizing her pastel pink dress with another eye affixed to her forehead in what might have been Gucci’s “shadow committee” of millennials‘ forecast for upcoming unrealistic beauty standards.
