19 Sumptuous Pictures From Photographer Jamie Hawkesworth’s Travels In India

Before breaking into fashion with the likes of Miu Miu and as a prolific collaborator of J.W. Anderson, the British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth was—and is still at heart—a documentarian. His color-saturated portraits of teens across England were what initially caught the eye of fashion insiders, and he’s shown not only a sense of person but of place: The W contributor’s now well-known series of pictures of the Preston bus station in Lancashire will be published as a book by Dashwood Books, and his pictures from his wide-ranging travels are the subject of “Landscape With Tree,” a 14-room exhibition currently at Amsterdam’s Huis Marseille. One of those rooms in the museum is dedicated to Hawkesworth’s time documenting a boarding school in Pune, in the Maharashtra region of western India. The resulting 19 pictures are saturated with both local color and landscape.
