JANE'S ADDICTION

It’s Getting Hot in Here

What W’s beauty director, Jane Larkworthy, is hooked on this month.

BEAUTY MARC

Let me count the ways in which I love Marc Jacobs’s debut beauty line. First comes his dark-as-a-Sharpie idiot-proof eyeliner Magic Marc’er ($30). Second, his Enamored nail polish in Evelyn, a perfect muted slate ($18). And finally, his Style Eye-Con No. 3 shadow trio in the Mod ($42), which I will be wearing, in some combination, every day. “Our intention isn’t to make a statement at the risk of making someone look silly,” said Jacobs. A man after my own heart. (sephora.com)

UNDER MY SKIN

I’ve never been keen on the idea of a facelift, but Chia Chi Kao has made me reconsider—20 years or so down the road, of course. The cosmetic surgeon’s endoscopic “redraping” repositions underlying facial muscles and tissue rather than pulling skin tight, so his patients don’t have that telltale taut-face look. And he combines his lifts with injections of the patients’ own fat, to restore youthful volume. “I put a little bit everywhere, so the face moves in harmony,” says the Santa Monica–based Kao. “If I just did the nasolabial folds or the lips, the patient would look unbalanced.” In other words, like she’s actually had work done. CITRUS SPRITZ

These refreshing, zesty scents are just the thing for scorching summer days. Think of them as the olfactory equivalent of lemonade. Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Vitae ($175, neimanmarcus.com) A crisp contrast of bright fruit and warm woodsy notes. Thirdman Eau Nomade ($180, thirdman.net) Lemon, cardamom, and blood orange dominate this body splash. Eau d’Italie Acqua Decima ($140, eauditalie.com) Mandarin tempers this light cologne’s tangy lemon, and mint adds a cool tone.

NECTAR OF THE DOCS

These days, when the dermatologist David Colbert offers you a shot, he’s not necessarily talking about Botox. At Colbert’s Manhattan practice, patients can ingest some of his favorite skincare ingredients in the form of Nutrition for the Skin ($4, juicegeneration.com), a one-ounce drink created for Colbert by Juice Generation. It contains free radical–fighting green tea and circulation-boosting gotu kola, as well as peppermint, agave, and bitter orange.

SHINY UNHAPPY PEOPLE

August is the one time of year when “You look hot” is not necessarily a compliment. Once the temperature hits 80, the battle to tone down my gleaming face begins. Thankfully, I’ve found a few new weapons: Maybelline Fit Me! Shine-Free Gel Stick Foundation ($9, maybelline.com) The oil-absorbing core in this gel foundation stick keeps sheen at bay. Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate ($85, clarinsusa.com) To avoid oil slicks, I’ve been skipping the moisturizer and instead dabbing on this light serum at bedtime. When I wake up, my skin looks calm, smooth, and glowing in a good (not greasy) way. Clark’s Botanicals Cellular Lifting Moisture Mist ($45, clarksbotanicals.com) This spritz not only hydrates, but it also provides a matte finish that lasts for hours.

A MAJOR BLOW

Before he was a famous hairstylist, Harry Josh worked at a production company, casting shows for Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. In the off-hours, though, model friends like Gisele Bündchen, Shalom Harlow, and Karolina Kurkova would climb the six flights to his tiny studio apartment, where he would cut and color their hair in his bathroom. Lately, he’s been moonlighting again, designing a line of styling tools. Up first is the compact-but-mighty ionic Pro Tools Pro Dryer 2000 $300, hairenvy.com), which revs to 80 mph and has a cool-shot button that delivers a serious blast of cold air to lock in styles. Taming my cowlick just got a whole lot easier.
