Jose Neves is not a big believer in one-stop shopping. “What’s really interesting are the small boutiques that you have to do a lot of research just to find,” he says. So for those of us who have neither the time, nor the frequent-flier miles, to jet off to, say, Mumbai, Neves has hatched Farfetch, an e-commerce site that offers fashion-hungry customers access to more than 300 independent stores across the globe. And the company is constantly expanding its reach. This fall, Farfetch will launch sites in Russia, Japan, and China, and introduce a style-guide app featuring advice from local boutique owners. The enterprise has been a win-win for Neves and small retailers, though not without some collateral damage. “I think my wife needs more closet space,” Neves says with a laugh.
