Karl Lagerfeld, Ashley Olsen, and Christian Louboutin

What makes a classic? Something with longevity, that manages to seem at once relevant and timeless. Falling squarely in that category would be Louis Vuitton’s monogram logo. And so Friday night in New York, the French brand’s chairman and CEO Michael Burke and Vice President Delphine Arnault threw a star-studded dinner to fete its latest endeavor, Celebrating Monogram, for which it enlisted six artists and designers—Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, Cindy Sherman, Frank Gehry, Marc Newson and Rei Kawakubo—to create a bag or piece of luggage using the indelible canvas pattern (Lagerfeld took particular liberties with his logo-ed boxing bag and accompanying accessories). Catherine Deneuve, Adele Exarchopolous, Sofia Coppola, Nicole Kidman and Charlotte Gainsbourg led a stylish pack who enjoyed cocktails in the Museum of Modern Art’s restaurant The Modern before decamping to a colorful caged structure commissioned exclusively for dinner.
